Hi All. Welcome to my first video from my new You Tube Channel and the first topic is Infrared Photography, following a video I did with my friend and Business Gateway Advisor, Steve Newlin. The video summarises my technique and motivation for infrared and fine art photography creation, as a professional photographer operating around Edinburgh and Scotland. This is in complete contrast to my conference and corporate photography work in Edinburgh, which will also be the subject of a future video chat. Thank you again to Steve Newlin from Business Gateway for conducting the interview.
Improvisation for Conference Photography
Here are a few tips for conference photography, things that I have to consider as a professional conference and event photographer operating around Scotland.
- Make use of the lighting in the venue and remember it can change ie changing natural light from windows may effect exposure
- Bring flash but it needs to be portable, so be prepared to use it on camera
- Although you will have a brief, always keep a lookout for candid moments with the delegates and speakers
- Take notice if you think a speaker or a delegate is hinting to you that they don’t want their photo taken any more. Conference photography is about people, as well as composition and light
- Take business cards with you. You never know who may ask you for one. it could even be a delegate asking for wedding photography
More tips soon, but hope these were useful.
Fine Art Infrared Photography Out of Season in Scotland
At this time of the year, as a professional event and corporate photographer operating in Edinburgh and Scotland, I try to make good use of the quiet periods in December and January by taking new infrared photos in East Lothian and Edinburgh and organising previous images taken in the Spring and Summer to prepare for sale and also to update my websites. I was in Edinburgh on friday and was presented with some perfect shadows on the buildings, which lead to some artistic infrared photos, that was after a good infrared photoshoot at Cove Bay, Borders, Scotland – not bad for the winter, which can be very challenging for infrared photographers, due to the rather dull weather we get and the lack of trees and foliage, but you just have to look harder and I am more than happy with what I took.
The rest of the week sees me getting into action with some food photography in Edinburgh and a corporate student event photography assignment at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.
Until next time.
Kind Regards Colin – www.edinburghphotographer.com www.colinwrightphotography.co.uk
January for Professional Corporate and Event Photographers in Scotland
As a professional corporate and event photographer operating around the Edinburgh area and throughout Scotland, as you can imagine there will be quiet times and peaks and troughs. Well now, ie January, is that time, so what do we do to fill the void. I have detailed below the main areas of work which are vital during slower periods:
1 Update your equipment and take stock of what you need for the coming year
2. Attend training courses and update your skills, even if it is Government run free courses, you are still improving your knowledge and your long term business outlook
3. Promote other areas of your work ie I sell fine art infrared photos as apart of an ongoing Infrared Photography in Scotland project
4. Update your website
5. Look at your Social Media strategy as to whether it is working and what can you do better
6. Re-examine your price strategy
7. Look at new markets and ways of selling your product
8. Network, get out and about while you have the time
