I visited the site of the Kelpies installation way back about 6 years ago when I first got into infrared photography using digital equipment.  I had completed an infrared assignment as part of my photography training using analogue equipment but this was my fist visit with my newly converted digital camera.

So I was overjoyed to return to this location with my infrared gear.  As a professional fine art photogrpaher working in Scotland, it is always a pleasure to go to locations like the Kelpies.  There are a number of reasons why this place is so special for infrared.  First of all you need the right weather and we certainly had it last friday, with lots of cloud and blue sky.  Metallic subjects are also great for infrared, as the dynamic range captures aspects on the metal surface that a conventional camera is unable to detect.

The Kelpies combined with the spooky nature of infrared photography is ideal and there is plenty of scope for experimenting.  The site also has plenty of grass and trees and a canal with boats, ideal also for infrared photography.  This is a fantastic way for me to extend my collection of infrared photographs for my intended Infrared Photography in Scotland publication.  Its also a good use of my time prior to my event photography commissions re-starting in Scotland, hopefully as soon as possible.
