Hi Everyone
For this blog i will be looking at how we can apply infrared photography to other genres of photography, such as event photography or say when I have a conference photography commission in Edinburgh for instance. Infrared photography has a life of its own, like traditional film photography, you dont really know what you will get until you get home.as the editing although brief in some cases, is everything. Here are a few examples:
Infrared photography for weddings.
When I photograph a wedding in Scotland, as well as concentrating on the bride and groom, I also spend some time looking at how I can apply infrared photography to the subject matter, often this involves photographing the cars, or the bride and groom near trees. As with all infrared photography you will need the sunshine, but its worth it, give it a go.
Infrared and sports photography in Scotland
I often photograph football and rugby, in addition to supercars in Scotland. For sport there are a number of applications for infrared photographers, you can photograph from behind the net, get some really creative black and white images in football, motor cycling looks great in infrared, particularly if the sky is right and anything involving cars can look great.
Infrared photography for the conference photographer in Edinburgh or Scotland.
So here is where it gets tricky. Infrared photography really needs to be outdoors, but this should not limit you, you could take a photo of the conference venue from outside, they are often held in wonderful locations with lots of trees and opportunities to showcase a great sky, you can also do a creative group shot of the delegates, which you can convert to a black and white image with wonderful dynamic range. So even for the conference photogrpaher in Edinburgh and Scotland, there are lots of opportunities.
Architecture photography and infrared.
Now this is where it gets interesting, architecture photographers can have a field day outdoors with infrared photography. The sky can be showcased to great effect and you will get a brilliant dynamic range image if you choose to photograph at the right time of day with lots of blue sky and clouds. Infrared will show of detail you never knew existed, it will be a bit like getting a brand new pair of fantastic HD headphones and noticing all the details.
So you see there are lots of applications for infrared photographers. Just give it a go and see what happens. More on this topic on later blogs, but until then, by for now.
Kind Regards
Colin
