Sometimes the emotional aspect of photography is under estimated. As a professional photographer, I have photographed weddings, sport, where I am also rooting for a specific team ie Scotland in the Rugby International 7s, for instance, and also some very emotional photoshoots, whilst I was a newspaper photoshoot, ie an initiative or memorial on behalf of someone who meant a lot to a community. As a photographer attending an event, I am only human and I can get emotional too. This can be used to your advantage and should allow you to more effectively capture a human moment than someone who is totally detached from a situation. That’s not to say you should get carried away and forget your impartial responsibilities, especially in sport. All I am saying is use that emotional connection to help you capture the best images you can.
